There was a change in the weather.

The air became unbearably humid.

Stanley was drenched in sweat.

Beads of moisture ran down his shovel.

The air itself was sweating.

A loud boom of thunder echoed across the empty lake.

A storm was beyond the mountains.

Stanley could count between the lightning and thunder.

That was how far away the storm was.

Sound travels a great distance.

FOR KINDRED:

(from the prologue)

I lost an arm on my last trip home.

My left arm.

I lost a year of my life and the security I had not valued.

Until it was gone.

The police released Kevin, he came to the hospital

Stayed with me.

I know I hadn’t lost him too

PAR-POEM

I almost lost an arm on my last trip home.

My left arm.

I almost had forgotten my Spider Sense provided additional security.

Until the threat was all but gone.

When the police captured the Green Goblin, I went to the hospital

And stayed with Aunt May.

I know I hadn’t lost her.
